An ambassadorial nominee, Mrs. Ijioma Bristol, could not recite the National Anthem and the Pledge, when asked to do so by the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Mrs. Bristol was one of the 29 ambassadorial nominees that appeared before the committee for screening yesterday.

She also could not state correctly the capital of Jigawa State, giving it as Damaturu instead of Dutse.

When asked to talk about the Vienna Convention, Mrs. Bristol said: “I cannot quote the content of the Vienna Convention.”

Chairman of the Committee Senator Jibril Aminu said: “Madam, this is not a joke. This is a problem. It is not a joke at all that you cannot recite the National Anthem and the Pledge.”

Some members of the committee said she lacked the basic knowledge of diplomatic relations.
