Don makes case for African female playwrights

Jos – A female playwright and university don, Professor Irene Agunloye, has made a case for African women playwrights to be accorded due recognition for their contribution to dramatic literature, calling for a departure from the long standing discrimination against them.

Delivering the 48th inaugural lecture of the University of Jos, weekend, she said time had come to recognise women’s contributions and remove obstacles for them to take their rightful place in global issues like their male counterparts.

Agunloye, a professor of African Drama and Women Studies, spoke on Challenging the Masters’ Craft: Nigerian Female Playwrights in the Theatre of Men.
