Pep Guardiola has officially signed a 12-month contract extension with Barcelona, the club’s official website has confirmed.

The 40-year-old verbally agreed to the terms earlier in the month, but the deal was finally made official this afternoon in a ceremony which included assistant Tito Vilanona and president Sandro Rosell.

The renewal ties the tactician to the Catalan giants until June 30, 2012, ending speculation of a move to the English Premier League, and should he complete the full term, he will become only the fourth coach in the club’s history to be in charge for four seasons or longer.

Guardiola took the helm in 2008 and in his first season took the Blaugrana to an unprecedented treble of La Liga, Copa del Rey and Champions League, the first Spanish side ever to do so.

The coach becomes the latest member of the current Barcelona side to commit to an extended stay at the club, with Sergio Busquets and Bojan Krkic signing long-term deals earlier in the season, while Eric Abidal is expected to follow suit in the coming weeks.
