Armed Robbers Engage Police In Fierce Gun Battle…10 Arrested

Ten suspected armed robbers have been arrested at Gballe, a farming community near Tuna in the Tuna-Kalba District of the northern region after a fierce exchange of gunfire.

They ten are Doguba Vincose, Dari Nayi, Komma Kyereh, Normeh Koji, Hunkyere Vincobe and Yalo Karim.

The rest are three brothers comprising Alhassan Sorne, Dauda Sorne, Musha Sorne, and Kaaku Gbubre.

Police reports say they were arrested at their hide out after a tip off. Items retrieved from them included three shot barrel guns, one axe, a bow and arrow, three cutlasses, two catapults, and a dagger.

Residents of the area have in recent times complained about troubles caused by the robbers and expressed delight about their arrest.

Security operatives in the Sawla-Tuna Kalba district confirmed that the suspected robbers have been terrorizing residents of Bole, Tuna and their environs.

Briefing the media in Tamale, Deputy Acting Northern Regional Police Commander, ACP Kwadwo Appiah Adjei said, the Police had information that the suspects were operating with impunity in those areas.

He said, they were arrested with the help of residents of the affected areas and commended them for their efforts.

ACP Kwadwo Adjei hinted that one of the suspects, Musah Sorne, suspected to be leader of the gang, provided accommodation to some of the suspects.

He said another suspect, Komma Kyereh snatched a rifle from one of
the policemen while another tried to slash the throat of another but both were overpowered by the police.

ACP Kwadwo Adjei called on the public to volunteer information to the police to help them clamp down on the activities of armed robbers whose nefarious activities have affected the northern region’s socio-economic development.
