Information available to Joy News suggests the controversy over the payment of ex-gratia to former President John Agyekum Kufuor may soon end.
The negotiating teams of both sides have held several meetings to agree on terms acceptable to both parties. Sometime last year, Mr. Kufuor demanded full settlement when government attempted piecemeal payments. He was also not happy there was no accompanying documentation to a cheque for 9,000 Ghana cedis.
It would be remembered that soon after President Mills assumed office he ordered a freeze of sort on ex-gratia payments pending a review, an action which attracted mixed reaction from sections of the public. Members of Parliament were later sorted out.
Joy News sources suggest the package for President Kufuor and his vice should be ready in a couple of weeks. What is still unclear is whether what government is offering is a reviewed package.
