An impressive net score of 65 saw Ron Ampaw running home with this year’s President’s Putter in the men’s category at the premier club, the Achimota Golf Club, on Boxing Day last Sunday.
This was in the penultimate tourney of the year.
Following the winner closely in second position, and playing on handicap 18 was young Daniel List, who returned a net score of 66 to beat E Sowah-Oddoye on count back.
The winner received a beautiful trophy-like Putter, while the other winners took home glittering trophies donated by the club’s president Captain Rtd Kojo Butah.
Ama Morgan reigned supreme in the ladies category with a net score of 70, playing on a double handicap of 21. It was Beatrice Vestch-Bempong, who, playing on handicap 11, finished second with 72net, while B. Sowah -Allotey, 73net and E.A. Yabah followed in that order.
Mike Ezan returned a score of 43 to emerge winner in the men’s 9-holer event, while G. Wilson Asamoah finished first in the ladies category.
Godwin Sai grossed 68 to win the pros event. Anthony Gbenyo followed with 70 gross, while Emos K. Korblah finished third, recording 71 gross.
The club’s president praised the golfers highly for sacrificing their time on Boxing Day to honour his invitation. He also congratulated Club Captain Mike Aggrey for keeping the course in a fantastic shape.
The president also thanked the club’s manager Mr E. Oteng Aboagye, Mr Aggrey, Dougls Bukari, the Bar manager and all whose various efforts had seen the club rise above the rest over the years.
He announced that henceforth, the President’s Putter will be played on December 26 (Boxing Day) annually.
And according to club sources, the next edition would be sponsored by Ideal Finance Company Limited.
