Prime Minister Kamal Ganzouri received on Thursday 29/12/2011 six Arab housing ministers to review the outcome of an Arab League ministerial housing council meeting which wrapped up in Cairo Thursday and ways to coordinate Arab housing strategies and unify building codes.

Talks also took up Egypt’s efforts to restore stability and revive the national economy.

The meeting involved the Bahraini, Saudi, Qatari, Yemeni, Iraqi and Sudanese housing ministers.

Meantime, Ganzouri held talks with visiting Iraqi Minister of Housing and Reconstruction Mohammed Saheb al-Darraji on means of boosting joint cooperation.

In statements after the meeting, the Iraqi minister said that the talks dealt with contribution by Egyptian companies in Iraq reconstruction.

He said that Baghdad welcomes the participation of Egyptian companies in the national reconstruction process.

Directives were issued to the Iraqi embassy in Cairo to ease up all measures for the Egyptian businessmen who would like to operate in Iraq, he added.

Darraji said he extended an invitation to premier Ganzouri to visit Iraq with a view to following up the Egyptian participation in Iraq reconstruction.

Attending the meeting was Egyptian Minister of Housing Fatahi Baradei who, in press statements after the meeting, said that the talks were fruitful, with Ganzouri showing keenness on pushing up joint cooperation in all domains.

Meanwhile, the Armed Forces on Thursday kicked off the first phase of a social housing project that aims to set up one million housing units for limited-income brackets throughout Egypt.

The first phase will see 6,000 units set up in Helwan, south of Cairo.
