Former Bayer Leverkusen and Germany striker Ulf Kirsten has praised Mario Gomez, claiming the Bayern Munich man is the model forward, even ahead of Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo.

Gomez has found the net 24 times in 25 games this season, earning praise from team-mates, coaches and retired greats, and now Kirsten.

“In Europe and indeed worldwide, Gomez is at the time the striker par excellence,” the 46-year-old said according to Bild.

“Gomez is preferable to me than Ronaldo. And I think that Gomez will develop further: he’s only 26 and has already shown that he can survive difficult periods.”

Gerd Muller also offered his comments on Gomez, opining that the former Stuttgart man will one day exceed his Bundesliga scoring record.

“At some point, he will beat my record of 40 goals in a season,” the Germany legend said.

Since August of 2010, Gomez has tallied 63 goals in 70 games for Bayern.
