Luanda — The creation of a virtual library by the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries (Minader) will permit a direct connection with that of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) that has more than 60,000 books.

This was said by FAO representative to Angola, Mamoudou Diallo, who added that access to his organisation’s main library will enable decision makers, policy makers, technicians and various other professionals to directly access information linked to all areas of the sector, particularly agriculture, forests, fisheries and management of natural resources.

The official was speaking at the ceremony of closing of an intensive training programme on management of virtual libraries designed dor 23 Minader officials.

According to Mamoudou Diallo subjects linked to environment and rural development are part of the package.

He said that one of the advantages of such a library is its direct connection with FAO main library, adding that the importance of Angola in the domain of information and computing technology is the management of a virtual bibliographic centre.

Mamoudou Diallo stated that the initiative will enable the storing of a major quantity of information, rapid access to stored documents and a greater exchange with other similar libraries, with a possibility of creation of a national network of virtual libraries with access to the world network.

The official also said that the virtual library will enable Minader to regularly access the scientific and technical publications placed at the disposal of member countries free of charge and make arrangements to access the recent world scientific research network.
