Malanje — The Angolan Culture minister, Rosa e Cruz Silva, announced last Thursday that the statue of Queen Njinga Mbandi that was removed from Luanda’s Kinaxixe Square will be transferred to the province of Malanje in 2012, aimed at symbolising the battles fought by this historic figure in this region, against European domination.
The government official announced this when she was making an assessment of the activities she carried out for three days in Malanje Province to learn about the existing local historical sites, as well as the ongoing works in the provincial library and Turismo cinema.
She informed that her visit was positive, as she managed to asses some historical monuments, with highlight on places like the tomb of kings of Ndongo, the cemetery in which are buried many historical figures, located in Kapanda locality, and the Teka Dia Kinda memorial, aimed at placing them in the list of world heritage.
She also assured that the Culture Ministry will help the government of Malanje to build libraries and cinema halls.
On his turn, the governor of Malanje Province, Boaventura Cardoso, said that the inexistence of appropriate infrastructures for the promotion of music, dance and theatre has contributed to the weak organisation of cultural activities in this region.
