Lagos — Trading activities on the Nigerian bourse yesterday closed upwards movement with a modest gain. The benchmark indices increased with 156.75 basis points or 0.76 per cent to close in the positive territory while sentiments remained unchanged as market capitalization of 199 first-tier equities appreciated by N49 billion which is 0.75 per cent to close at N6.546 trillion.
Three out of five NSE sectoral indices closed positive negative.
In the meantime, a turnover of 304 million shares worth N1.411 billion in 2,490 deals was recorded during the day.
Financial services sector led the market transaction volume with 220 million units valued at N878 million exchanged in 1,422 deals.
The banking sub-sector of the financial services sector was the most active during the day (measured by turnover volume); with 133 million shares worth N826 million exchanged by investors in 1,320 deals.
Volume in the banking sub-sector was largely driven by activity in the shares of Fidelity Plc, UBA Plc and Guaranty Trust Bank Plc.
Also, insurance sub-sector of the financial services sector was boosted by activity in the shares of Guinea Insurance Plc, followed by Great Nigeria Insurance Plc and Custodian and Allied Insurance Plc.
Meanwhile, Dangote Flour Plc led on the gainers’ table with a gain of N5.27 kobo to close at N110.77 kobo per share while Flour Mills Nigeria Plc followed with a gain of N2.96 kobo to close at N62.34 kobo per share and GlaxoSmithKline Plc gained N0.90 kobo to close at N23.90 kobo per share.
On the other side, NewGold Plc led on the price losers’ table, dropped N162.00 kobo per cent to close at N2,422.00 kobo per share while Nigerian Breweries Plc followed with a loss of N5.23 kobo per cent to close at N99.37 kobo per share and Forte Oil Plc with N0.61 kobo to close at N11.62 kobo per share.
