Advisory Council Chairman Mansour Hassan affirmed that the council is committed to and respects the constitutional declaration, dismissing differences over the competences in forming a constituent committee to draft a new constitution.

“There is no interference by the advisory council in this original competence of parliament. This is what was agreed upon with SCAF,” said Hassan in statements.

Hassan said that Egypt can have a new constitution within a week.

Egypt boasts experts that can draft the constitution within one week, he said in an interview with Al-Arabiya.

Mansour stressed that the new parliament will be the sole body responsible for picking up the members of the constituent assembly that will write the constitution.

“We (the Advisory Body) have nothing to do with this issue,” he stressed.

If the constitution was not written in time, the presidential elections will be held as scheduled so that power will be transferred on July 1, he said.
