Slim Besbes was born on May 5th, 1963 in Tunis. He was recently nominated to serve as Secretary of State for the Minister of Economy. Besbes is an independent who is unaffiliated with any political party.
A few months after receiving his Baccalaureate of Arts in 1982, Besbes enrolled in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at Toulouse University in France. There, he received a bachelor’s degree in Sociology in 1986, and in 1988, he was awarded a second bachelor’s degree in Social and Economic Administration. Besbes received many other diplomas between 1989 and 1990 in general law, fiscal law, as well as corporate law. Eventually in September 2005, Besbes was awarded a doctorate of general law from the University of Tunis.
Slim Besbes is widely recognized for his academic contributions and activities; he taught general and fiscal law at the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences in Tunis then became a lecturer at the Higher Institute of Gabes (a city in the Tunisian south) from 2001 to 2006.
Slim Besbes pointed out that Tunisia requires urgent measures to satisfy the needs of the country, and that the current interim government must work together to address these needs.
