Free State Stars say they will not stand in the way of reported Kaizer Chiefs target, coach Steve Komphela.

Komphela, a stalwart of the Chiefs defence in the 1990s, has been linked with a move to Naturena once the contract of current incumbent Vladimir Vermezovic comes to an end in June.

And according to the New Age, Chiefs have already made informal contact with Komphela’s agent, Tim Sukazi, about the availability the 44-year-old.

“The chat I had with Bobby was casual but I am not going to talk about that,” Sukazi told the newspaper. “Even Stars called me to find out what the real truth was but until something concrete has been put on the table, Steve remains the coach of Stars.”

And the club have said they will not stand in the way of Komphela should an official approach be made.

“We have no problem in letting Steve Khompela join a team of his choice,” Stars manager Rantsi Mokoena said. “He has a contract with us but we are not going to stand in his way.

“We are yet to be informed officially about this, but the important thing to note is that, even though we value his contribution to the team, he was not only the coach who ensured success, as people like assistant coach Themba Sithole have played a major role in ensuring that we have a formidable side.”
