Lagos — Trading activities open the week after yuletide on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) on negative trend as market capitalization of 199 first-tier equities depreciated by N46 billion which is 0.70 per cent to close at N6.497 trillion.
The key benchmark indices also decreased by 146.03 basis points, representing 2.23 per cent to close at 20,617.23.
All the five NSE sectoral indices closed negative.
In the meantime, a turnover of 261 million shares worth N1.789 billion in 2,607 deals was recorded during the day.
Financial services sector led the market transaction volume with 209 million units valued at N1.147 billion exchanged in 1,572 deals.
The banking sub-sector of the financial services sector was the most active during the day (measured by turnover volume); with 193 million shares worth N1.139 billion exchanged by investors in 1,268 deals.
Volume in the banking sub-sector was largely driven by activity in the shares of UBA Plc, Zenith Bank Plc and Fidelity Bank Plc.
Also active is the insurance sub-sector of the financial services sector, boosted by activity in the shares of AIICO Insurance Plc, followed by Niger Insurance Plc and Continental Re-Insurance Plc.
However, Guinness Nigeria Plc led on the gainers’ table with a gain of N5.00 kobo to close at N250.00 kobo per share while Okomu Oil Plc followed with a gain of N1.10 kobo to close at N23.10 kobo per share and Unilever Nigeria Plc gained N1.00 kobo to close at N28.00 kobo per share.
