Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi has expressed shock that impressive defender Papa Idris failed to make the final cut for the recent Olympic qualifiers in Morocco.
The new Kano Pillars signing has been superb for the local Eagles. He has emerged as a top talent in the Abuja training camp to earn such nicknames like ‘General’, ‘Commander’ and ‘Mr Perfect’.
“If we drop a player of the quality of Papa, how can the team do well,” wondered Keshi, who incidentally was in Morocco for the tournament in which Nigeria failed to go past the group phase and thus missed out on next year’s London Olympics.
Assistant coach Daniel Amokachi informed Keshi that the former Kaduna United skipper was not picked by Dream Team V for the Olympic qualifiers in Morocco.
Papa would later confirm to Keshi that he was dropped from the Olympic team and placed on standby.
