DELTA State is set to host the maiden edition of Victor Ochei National Open Wheelchair Basketball Championship, with prize money pegged at N5 million.
The President, Nigeria Wheelchair Basketball Federation (NWBF), Bukola Olopade, said the championship is aimed at developing wheelchair basketball in the country among special sports athletes, with all the 36 states of the federation and Abuja expected to participate.
According to Olopade, the overall winner will go home with N2.5 million, while the second placed team/state will pocket N1.5 million and third place team, N1 million. The Ogun State erstwhile Commissioner for Youth and Sports thanked the sponsor, Victor Ochei, who is the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, for his interest in the welfare of special athletes.
