THE ABURA Asebu Kwamankese (AAK) District assembly has given local distilleries at Potubiew five weeks to relocate or face the consequences.

The local distilleries have been operating behind the Community Health Post (CHPS) compound for some years now, hence the need for the assembly to relocate them due to the health hazard their activities pose to patients at the clinic.

Addressing the distilleries, the AAK District Chief Executive (DCE), William Atta Mends, stated that an agreement was made between the assembly and the distilleries to relocate but they failed to move with an excuse that they did not have money to construct a structure to operate in.

Mr. Mends noted that the assembly had to donate 200 bags of cement worth GH¢2,800 to enable the distilleries to construct new structures at their new location.

The DCE said the assembly would not tolerate any more excuses from the distilleries and would do anything possible to get them out of the place.

The chief of Potubiew, Nana Bokyeriwa Ekwembiri III, and the Queen mother of Asebu Traditional Area, Nana Amenfiwa II, who received the items on behalf of the local distilleries, commended the assembly for the kind gesture and promised to move at the expected time.
