Wigan boss Roberto Martinez has claimed that Tom Cleverley‘s imminent return to fitness will represent a massive boost to Manchester United‘s title challenge.
Following his return from a loan spell at Wigan last campaign, Cleverley quickly established himself in the United squad early in the season before being ruled out with ligament damage in September following a tackle with Bolton’s Kevin Davies, and has featured sporadically since.
After watching his side succumb to a 5-0 defeat at the hands of the Red Devils on Boxing Day, Martinez believes the 22-year-old’s return to first-team action will provide a timely boost for Sir Alex Ferguson.
The Lactics boss told The Sun: “Tom Cleverley is a player you need to work with to understand the full package.
“The mentality he’s got is quite unique. He’s a winner and we all see what he can do.
“Tom will be refreshed – and that could be the key for United. He’s going to be fully fit and it’s going to be like having a new signing.
“He can make a big impact on the title race.”
