As the nation says farewell to the late Judge Fikile Bam today, I would like to add my voice to those who have paid tribute to this remarkable man.
Judge Fikile Bam was a judge like no other. He was committed to the cause of justice, passionate about the Law and dedicated to deepening and consolidating our democracy through his work as the judge president of the Land Claims Court of South Africa.
The nation has lost a true South African patriot, and a leading legal mind. Judge Bam’s passing has left a great void in our judicial system.
Judge Bam’s work and legacy must not only be remembered, but treasured, so that it may continue to inspire younger generations of jurists, and so continue to build a strong and truly independent judiciary.
On behalf of the IFP, I wish to convey my sincerest and deepest condolences to the family and friends of the late Judge Fikile Bam. To those whom he has left behind, I extend my heartfelt sympathies and I pray that the Almighty will comfort and uphold you during this difficult time.
