Osogbo — Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola has attributed the lack of functional oil refineries to the nation’s economic woes.

The governor, who spoke on Sunday in Osogbo at the opening ceremony of an Islamic organization of professionals known as the Companion at the Fountain University, wondered why Nigeria could not boast of a single functional refinery.

He linked the controversies trailing the proposed removal of oil subsidy to what he described as the lack of transparency in the process of managing the affairs of the country.

He said, “We must demand openness in government. The truth is that we have so much mismanaged our affairs that there is really no wealth to distribute”.

Aregbesola, however, said asked Nigerians to resist any attempt by the military to return to power, saying “we had a horrible experience with the military. To make it worse, a military man ruled us for eight years.

“We must resist any attempt to bring back the military. America has greater problems than Nigeria, yet, the military option has never been touted as an option.

Whatever it is, Nigerians are capable of managing their affairs and we will resist any attempt to invite the military”.
