Arsenal midfielder Alex Song believes that striker Thierry Henry would still be able to make a substantial impact for the Gunners if the Frenchman were to return to the Emirates.

The north London outfit’s all-time leading goalscorer has been back in the capital to train with his former side following the end of the MLS season, where he currently plays for the New York Red Bulls.

Arsene Wenger is yet decide whether to sign the forward on a short-term loan deal, with Gervinho and Marouane Chamakh set to feature in the African Cup of Nations for Ivory Coast and Morocco next month respectively, leaving the Gunners short on firepower.

Song insists that the 34-year-old could offer Arsenal an alternative up front due to his vast experience, suggesting he has told the former Barcelona forward he could still play in the Premier League.

“When I see him training, I am teasing him: ‘You could still play with us, you know?’ But he has never replied and just smiled,” Song told L’Equipe.

“What he achieved during his career is just amazing. He has nothing more to prove in football.

“Today he has the opportunity to give us a help.

“A player with such stature, such potential. He would bring us a lot.”
