Wau — As the inhabitants of Western Bahr el Ghazal State capital of Wau prepare to travel to the countryside to join families for Christmas, several commuters are stranded in bus stations while Wau main airstrip remained scheduled busy with long queues of passengers.

The potentially long lines and checkup measures at Wau airstrip, travelers need to arrive at the airstrip early as the same to bus travelers. Isaac Mayom, manager at Wau main bus station told The Citizen that skyrocketing of fuel price in Wau also has affected many buses though the smoothness of road passage from Wau to Rumbek since 20 liters of diesel is 120 SSP but Rumbek -Wau required 60 liters of fuel.

It is worth mention that travelling from Wau to Rumbek which was 70 pounds has reached 150 pounds per passenger while there is also limited number of buses at this amount. At our station, travel passengers use to misbehave during travelling arrangement, they apply disrespect to each other and cause problem, Mayom said.

But only option is that, if disabled passenger board the bus and all the handicapped seats are occupied, we and the driver do ask non-disabled passengers in those seats to move.

Mayom also advised passengers that if the person occupying the seat refuses, he or she cannot be forced to move. You may sit in the next available seat and move to the designation seats since the bus takes all seats to where it goes.

In similar relation, women in Wau also complain of the high amount of money that their Christmas expenses, dresses through decoration may require for colorful shows.

Food prices also have gained momentum as a chicken’s price has moved from 25 pounds to 100 pounds in the market. Children’s dresses are sold from 50 pounds to 150 pounds.
