HFC Bank, Ghana, a trustee of the National Partnership for Children’s Trust (NPCT), has hosted more than 80 brilliant but disadvantaged school children from the Greater Accra region to an awards ceremony where the children received various scholarships from the Trust to help them through their education.
The total scholarship amount of GHC15, 000 was donated by Mr. Lawrence Addo, CEO of Relish Health Foods, Osu, Accra and happens to be the single highest donation ever made to the NPCT by any individual donor.
Last month, the NPCT awarded scholarships in the sum of GH¢ 10,146 to more than 60 students from across the country.
Mr. Addo said he had been keen to help disadvantaged but bright children with their education but did not have the appropriate mechanism to initiate such a project. He therefore left it on hold until he read the story of NPCT’s scholarship awards to 60 bright but needy children last month. He said, “I quickly liaised with the NPCT based on its solid track record, and here we are today”.
His donation of GHC15,000 enabled the NPCT to award 83 scholarships to pupils and students in Junior and Senior High Schools from Accra Metro and Ga West.
The scholarship scheme was adopted about a decade ago to support children to obtain better education while reducing the burden of parents who may have financial problems. Students are selected based on their performance and on the advice of school authorities.
