Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola has stressed that his decision about an eventual contract extension at the Camp Nou does not depend on whether the Blaugrana win any more trophies this term.

The successful trainer’s current deal with the world club champions runs until the end of this season, and he has yet to make a decision on his future.

“People need to be calm about my contract extension, I know what I’m doing. I know when I have to do it and how it needs to be done,” Guardiola said in a press conference.

“I can say that winning titles has nothing to do with my final decision. The constant questioning on the subject doesn’t bother me. Once I make my decision, I will inform club president [Sandro] Rosell.”

The Barcelona coach then reacted to Real Madrid trainer Jose Mourinho’s recent comments on Barca’s Club World Cup victory, and stressed that there are no problems with the Portuguese boss.

“Madrid’s coach wanted to congratulate us, and we thank him. Everything he says is given too much importance, there are no problems. He is free to say what he wants. He said the Champions League is more important [than the Club World Cup] and he’s right.”

Barcelona are currently preparing for Thursday’s Copa del Rey round of 32 second leg match at home against Hospitalet. Guardiola’s side lead 1-0 from the first leg.
