About fifteen people are reported dead and several others have sustained severe injuries in a tragic road accident which occurred around 6am this morning at Pakyi Number One near Kumasi on the Obuasi Highway.
But the police, however, say five people have been confirmed dead.
Reporting live from the accident scene, Sampson Kwame Nyamekye, HelloFM, PeaceFM and OkayFm’s Ashanti Regional correspondent said the accident involved a twenty three(23)-seater American Ford and a Thirty Three(33)-seater Benz bus which crashed in a headlong collision.
The benz bus was said to be travelling from Manso in the Ashanti region to Obuasi, whilst the Ford was heading towards Kumasi.
According to him citing reports from eyewitnesses, over fifteen dead bodies have been picked up from the scene whilst about 20 others with severe injuries have been rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for medical attention.
An eyewitness to the accident told Sampson Nyamekye that the driver of the Ford bus tried overtaking a private car but veered into the lane of the on-coming Mercedez-benz bus, which was also trying to avoid running into another vehicle which had parked by the roadside to pick passengers.
The police have since visited the scene and directing vehicular traffic in the area.
