SOUTHERN Province Minister, Lukulo Katombora, has become the first senior Government official to be dismissed after his appointment into the Patriotic Front (PF) administration.
President Michael Sata yesterday fired Mr Katombora, who is MMD Livingstone Central Member of Parliament (MP) and replaced him with Miles Sampa, who was Lusaka Province minister.
The president has also appointed three more opposition MMD members of Parliament as deputy ministers.
The mini-reshuffle is the first form of changes at deputy minister level that the president has made since the PF came into power in September this year.
Mr Sata has advised leaders in Government to work to the satisfaction of the Zambians and guard against the abuse of State resources.
“I would like to advise my colleagues who have been appointed to ensure that they work to the satisfaction of the Zambian people.
“We must guard against any form of abuse of State resources. Let us manage people’s resources in the most transparent and accountable manner,” he said.
The president’s Special Assistant for Press and Public Relations George Chellah announced the changes in Lusaka yesterday.
Kanyama PF MP, Gerry Chanda has been appointed Lusaka Province Minister while his Mwansabombwe counterpart Rogers Mwewa is the new minister for the Copperbelt.
Mr Mwewa replaces John Kufuna whom the president says would be allocated a new ministry in a short while.
The three MMD MPs appointed are Elijah Muchima (Ikeleng’i), Stephen Masumba (Mufumbwe) and Isaac Banda (Lumezi).
MMD MPs serving in Government are Nicholas Banda (Kapoche) who is Deputy Minster for Agriculture, Keith Mukata (Chilanga) Deputy at Ministry Commerce, Dr Patrick Chikusu (Katuba) Deputy Minister Health, Josephine Mwiya Limata (Luampa) who is Western Province minister, and Forrie Tembo (Nyimba) Deputy Minister Information.
