Two teenagers have been killed after arguments in two separate incidents near Mthatha, Eastern Cape police said on Sunday.
Lt-Col Mzukisi Fatyela said an 18-year-old man was stabbed to death by another man of the same age in Tsolo on Saturday night.
“An argument started between the two men at a traditional ceremony around 9pm,” he said. “They both pulled out knives and stabbed each other.”
One man died on the way to a local hospital. His alleged murderer was admitted to the same hospital, where he was under police guard.
“The man will face a charge of murder in court as soon as he recovers,” Fatyela said.
In a separate incident in Bityi, a 19-year-old man was stabbed to death by another man of the same age around 11pm on Saturday.
The two were walking from a shebeen when an argument broke out between them, Fatyela said.
“One man pulled out a knife and stabbed his opponent before he ran away. The wounded man died on the scene.”
Police followed leads and arrested the alleged killer at his home a short while later, Fatyela said.
He was expected to face a murder charge in the Bityi Periodical Court on Monday.
The causes of the arguments in both incidents were not known, Fatyela said. – Sapa
