Following the incessant killings that have bedevilled Jos, Plateau State of recent, investigators from International Criminal Court, Hague (Netherlands) are billed to visit the state to look into the various crimes against humanity.

The member representing Jos South/Jos East Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Bitrus Kaze disclosed this in Jos yesterday.

He said the visit had become necessary owing to the unabated killings that characterised crises in the state.

He however commended the current Commander of the Special Task Force (STF), Major General Olayinka Oshinowo for his efforts in dousing the killings in Jos, adding that since his arrival, the impunity with which terrorists wiped out several families appears to have receded.

He said since September when he held the forte, “troops are no longer hired for cow search missions like witnessed in the past, while response to distress calls appeared to have improved.”

Kaze said the relative peace being enjoyed in Jos under the new commander “exposed the weak trend of the past during which STF commanders and security chiefs from a particular ethnic stock, region and religion were not able to maintain neutrality in handling the crises.”

The lawmaker also condemned the alleged statement credited to Yahaya Mamood, a legal practitioner that ‘Jos will not know peace unless Governor Jang is compelled to carve out an Emirate for the Hausa/Fulani residing in the state.’

He said such position “gives credence to the position that Jos crisis is being sponsored by people desperately seeking to foist an emirate system on the state.”

“For a former Magistrate and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) to resort to outright fallacy, intimidation and incitement amount to serious misconduct and a breach of the Anti Terrorism Act 2011.
