WARRI – THE Onokpite family of Ugolo-Okpe, Okpe local government area of Delta State has dragged the Inspector General of Police, Commissioner of Police, Delta State and the Area Commander, Warri to a High Court in Warri over the killing of its son, Chief Ogbe Onokpite, a former governorship candidate of the Citizens Popular Party, CPP.
The eldest member of the Onokpite family, Mr. Lawrence Onokpite, Chief Victor Onokpite and Mr. Diemo Onokpite in a motion on notice filed before the court urged it to declare that the killing of Ogbe Onokpite on November 26 through multiple bullet wounds was a breach of his fundamental right to rife as protected under Section 33 of the 1999 Constitution.
They also prayed the court to declare that the killing of their son was done without or in the absence of a valid sentence/order of a court in respect of a criminal offence and therefore, illegal, extra-judicial, unconstitutional and without due process.
Furthermore, the families asked the court to give an order for an autopsy examination and/or a Coroner inquest into the cause and circumstances of death of the said Ogbe Onokpite and other orders as the court may deem fit to make in the circumstance for the redress of the infringement of the deceased human right to life.
The case has been adjourned to January 6.
