The police in Lagos on Wednesday confirmed the death of a 39-year-old worker with Patterson Zochonis Industries (PZ), Ikorodu Branch, Bolaji Sekoni.

Sekoni died on December 9 when a body cream mixing machine he was working with exploded and seriously injured him and another worker leading to his death.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Lagos State, Mr Samuel Jinadu, disclosed that Sekoni’s death was reported by PZ and was being treated as an “industrial accident”.

According to the police, while Sekoni died of the injuries he sustained in the factory shortly after the accident, his injured colleague has remained in hospital and is responding to treatment.

Jinadu said that the body had been deposited at the mortuary of the Ikeja General Hospital, adding that an autopsy would soon be performed to ascertain the cause of death.

Meanwhile, PZ has said that Sekoni’s death was a great loss to the company and not just to his family, describing him as a hard working staff.

The Corporate Affairs Director of PZ, Mrs Yomi Ifaturoti, her company has set machinery in motion to find out the actual cause of the accident.

“PZ is a very responsible organisation; we have well structured insurance and life compensation benefits,” she said, adding: “his family had been here, we have started discussions and they know what the management is doing”.
