TEAMtalk :    Frank Lampard is eager to play as much as possible, but admits he has not discussed his recent axing with Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas.

The England midfielder has been dropped to the bench for the Blues’ last two fixtures and has started only two of their last five.

There was a time when Lampard was one of the first names on the team sheet, but he is no longer considered to be an integral cog in the Stamford Bridge machine.

He remains an important member of the squad but, at the age of 33, he has been forced to adopt more of a supporting role this term.

Lampard is hoping he can convince Villas-Boas that he is still deserving of a regular starting berth, with his match-winning penalty against Manchester City on Monday doing his cause no harm, but admits he is yet to discuss his position with his Portuguese coach.

He said: “I want to play, it’s as simple as that. Being 33 or not, I’m as fit as I’ve ever been. I’ve been in a good run of form and now I’ve not been playing.
