Andres Iniesta has stated that his current Barcelona team is the best side he has ever played for.
The 27-year-old spoke to FIFA.com where he confirmed his belief that the reason for Barcelona’s success lies in their continuous phase of progression and growing since 2000.
“I believe this is the best Barca team I’ve ever played in,” stated Iniesta.
“That’s down to the way our play evolves, with the teams getting stronger every year. The challenge facing us is to improve day after day, year after year, something we’ve done in every respect – tactically, physically and technically.”
Since the arrival of Cesc Fabregas from Arsenal and Alexis Sanchez from Udinese, the Spanish international has found his place in the starting line-up on the decrease, however, this doesn’t seem to faze Iniesta as he believes it is a sacrifice everyone has to make.
“All of us want to be on the pitch, and the longer the better, but the coach knows what he wants.
“What matters is that we all contribute so as to have the best chance of winning honours. It’s a question of squad management, and that’s something I understand,” noted the World Cup winner.
Iniesta then went on to confirm that their main motivation lies in retaining their title won from the previous year.
“You never tire of winning and you can face challenges better when you’re winning and not losing,” he maintained.
“The problem, if I can call it that, is that now our opponents prepare better and it gets harder. But that’s part of the challenge and something I thrive on.”
