Head of the Independent General Tourism Workers Syndicate: Bassem Halaka is not worried about tourism because of the Muslim Brotherhood’s lead in the first phase of the elections.

What Halaka fears is a potential big number of Salafist al-Nour Party members in the Parliament.

Halaka explained that the Muslim Brotherhood might not be against tourism; for they know by their political experience that the tourism sector brings $12 billion a year. They also know that three million people, who provide for 18 million others, make their living from tourism.

In his statements reported by MENA, Halaka expressed his worries of a potential big number of Salafist al-Nour Party members in the Parliament, especially that they are known for their strict ideology and poor political experience.

Halaka added that Salfists’ hostility against tourism was obvious in their latest declarations, warning of what he called the “tourism-workers’ revolution if their industry and source of living was affected.”
