Christian Chivu could be out of the match against Fiorentina which would allow space for the 20-year-old Marco Faraoni to start.
The Romanian was replaced during the 2-1 loss to CSKA Moscow on Wednesday and has since been struggling with a right thigh problem.
Despite undergoing therapy on Thursday he still remains in doubt for the clash at the San Siro on Saturday evening.
Should the Romanian be unable to play, Faroani will surely step in after making just two league appearances this term.
Javier Zanetti will be serving his one match suspension against Fiorentina which will see Yuto Nagatomo step in after replacement right-back Douglas Maicon will also be absent due to injury.
