Algeria said Africa “would not leave Durban” without an operational Green Climate Fund and a signed Kyoto Protocol.
Algeria’s Minister of Spatial Planning and Environment Cherif Rahmani said the Durban COP17 was a decisive moment, a point of no return.
He said: “We are here to take decisions and shall not back out.”
Africa was clobbered hardest by climate change and was not ready to leave Durban without a concrete decision on Kyoto and the fund.
Algeria has coordinated climate negotiations for the Africa group since Copenhagen.
While the Cancun and Bali agreements were laudable, COP17 was being held on African soil, and failing on the African continent was not an option.
