President Jacob Zuma has appointed Free State High Court Judge President Hendrick Musi as a member of the commission of inquiry into the arms deal.

The presidency said in a statement on Tuesday that this came after Judge Willem van der Merwe had indicated that he would not be able to serve on the commission for personal reasons.

Zuma announced the commission of inquiry into the arms deal on October 24, 2011.

Its brief is to probe allegations of fraud, corruption, impropriety or irregularity in the Strategic Defence Procurement Package, otherwise known as the arms deal.

Supreme Court of Appeal Judge Willie Seriti will chair the commission.

He will be assisted by Judge Francis Legodi of the High Court in Pretoria and the newly-appointed Musi.

“We once again wish Mr Justice Seriti and his team well in the execution of this important task,” Zuma said in the statement. – Sapa
