Egypt’s Suez Canal Authority announced on Thursday 01/12/2011 it will increase toll fees by 3 percent for all ships transiting the strategic waterway as of March 2012.
In a statement, the authority said the Canal’s tariffs had remained unchanged for the previous three years.
The decision to raise tariffs was based on studies on the changes in the global economy and trade and the economies of maritime transportation.
The Suez Canal also plays a vital role in serving the global economy and the Egyptian economy and this calls for its protection, the statement said.
It also remains one of the world’s lowest-cost waterways, it added.
