President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Friday accepted the resignation of his Minister of Sports, Alhaji Yusuf Suleiman.

Alhaji Suleiman resigned his post in order to fulfil his declared political ambition of becoming the governor of Sokoto State.

The President thanked Suleiman for his services to the nation and wished him success in his future endeavours.

Three days ago, Suleiman joined the race for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship ticket in Sokoto, when he picked the expression of interest and nomination form from the party’s National Headquarters on Wednesday in Abuja.

Suleiman’s entry brought the total number of aspirants to three.

The former Sports Minister had told newsmen then that his mission was to develop the state.

“I am here to answer the call of my people, to pick nomination form for the governorship of Sokoto State.”

The former Minister of Transport explained that it took him time to pick the form.

“Today we are here because we believe we can heal and reconcile the good people of Sokoto State.

“We are here because we believe that our participation in this race will be for the good and in the best interest of the people of Sokoto State,” Suleiman said.

The former minister had come on board with others appointed after Jonathan had won last April’s election.
