Lokoja — About 20, 000 policemen have been deployed for today’s governorship election in Kogi State.
The spokesman of the State Police Command, Mr Okasanmi Ajayi, who spoke to Weekly Trust on phone yesterday, merely said there would be a massive deployment of police officers and officers of other security agencies for the election.
According to him, over 6,000 officers of the command would be at various locations within the state throughout the election period.
He confirmed that men and officers of police commands from neighbouring states had arrived the state for the election.
He said security arrangements had been perfected to ensure a hitch-free conduct of the election.
Our correspondent reports that hundreds of policemen were on parade yesterday in Lokoja, the state capital.
Meanwhile, INEC Chairman Prof. Attairu Jega said at stakeholders’ meeting in Lokoja on Thursday that at least two policemen would be at each of the 2,548 polling units in the state.
