Dar es Salaam — Former Young Africans striker, Saidi “SMG” Maulid has said the Senior East and Central Africa Challenge Cup is tough compared to the previous editions.

Speaking with The Citizen, Maulid who plies his trade in Angola said in early 2000s, the tournament was not tough as it is this year, as he is featuring for the first time since he left the country three years ago.

He said the level of football is high despite the fact that Somalia and Djibouti are still down in the Cecafa region. “Although Somalia and Djibouti are down, you can’t compare it with the past, you can’t score six or seven goals as it was in the past, they have gained despite the losing series,” said Maulid.

Maulid said that there is no league in Somalia due to endless civil war, but they still prepared a team for the tournament and we are seeing talented players in the field.

“I am sure if the country would have been peaceful like Tanzania, we would be saying different things in Somalia football today,” he said.
