The ANC in the Western Cape says it will consider legal action if there is no proof of DA allegations about a party “plot” to regain control of six DA municipalities.
The DA claimed onTuesday that the “plot” included cash bribes and the promise of tenders to councillors.
Party leader Theuns Botha laid criminal charges against seven people over an alleged plot dubbed Project Reclaim.
But provincial ANC leader Marius Fransman rejected the claims, saying he suspected the Project Reclaim document may have been manufactured.
Responding to the claim that large sums were offered to councillors to join the ANC, Fransman said it was “laughable”.
He said members joined the ANC voluntarily.
But Botha, who called Fransman the CEO of the “dirty tricks department”, said the affidavits of DA councillors who had allegedly been solicited told a different story.
“The ANC has no plan or project to bribe any other political office bearer,” said ANC regional secretary Songezo Mjongile.
“The DA must back up their allegations with tangible proof or face the consequences of legal action.”
