A 26-year-old man was released on bail at the Johannesburg Magistrates court on Wednesday after he appeared on charges of assaulting and raping his ex-girlfriend.
During a night out with her friends at a tavern in Johannesburg central on October 22, the 23-year-old woman was allegedly approached by her ex-boyfriend of six months. The accused allegedly pulled out a knife and demanded they go home (to his place). When the woman refused he assaulted her and dragged her out of the tavern.
He allegedly locked her up in his flat and raped repeatedly for three days until she finally escaped on October 25 after he forgot to lock the door. She immediately laid charges against the man at the Johannesburg Central police station and he was arrested on that day.
His bail was set at R2000 and the case was remanded to December 14 2011 for further investigation. – IOL
