On Tuesday, November 29, 2011, a National Peace and Reconciliation Jamboree will take place at the PHB Mini Sports Stadium, in Central Monrovia at the back of the Defense Ministry, formally of the BTC Barracks. The Peace and Reconciliation Jamboree, we are told, will be held under the theme: Celebrating 1Liberia. It is being held under the auspices of 2011 Nobel Laureate Leymah R. Gbowee, in partnership with the Women Peace and Security Network, Africa (WIPSEN-Africa).
Among other things, the major objective of the Jamboree, we are also told, is to create a space for Liberians from all strata of Liberian society to celebrate their oneness and that it also seeks to enhance and promote genuine peace and reconciliation among all Liberians irrespective of their political divide.
This National Peace and Reconciliation Jamboree, we are further told, is also expected to serve as a kickoff to the national reconciliation initiative announced by President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf this year.
For us, we wholeheartedly embrace this National Peace and Reconciliation Jamboree since it seeks to create a space for Liberians from all strata of Liberian society to celebrate their oneness as well as to enhance and promote genuine peace and reconciliation among all Liberians irrespective of their political divide.
We had stated and continue to state that the reconstruction drive of our country following years of political brouhaha will not achieve its desired objectives in the absence of national peace and reconciliation.
This is why we are calling on all of our fellow compatriots to also embrace this peace and reconciliation jamboree for the good of our beloved country.
It is our ardent hope that all will embrace this great initiative for its desired outcomes.
