Hundreds of supporters of the NDC in Kantinkyiren zongo in the Ashanti region have defected to the NPP with the aim of working hard to make sure that the NPP wins the 2012 general elections.

Announcing their move to the NPP flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, the group said they have decided to switch to the NPP because the NDC government has been a failure. They said they worked hard for the NDC ahead of the 2008 elections, moving from one zongo community to the other canvassing for votes for the NDC and “we will do that for the NPP too.”

Explaining further, the leader of the group said the NDC has disappointed them. He said “all the things they promised to do for us they have not done. It is as if they forgot about us as soon as they won the power.”

He continued that “today, life has even gotten worse under the NDC and it was not like that during the NPP days and because of that we will work hard for Nana and the NPP to ensure that the NPP comes back to power in 2012.”

Addressing the group, Nana Addo who was on a tour of the Atwima Kwanhoma constituency in the Ashanti region, welcomed the group warmly into the NPP fold.

He said “I am extremely happy about your decision to come and join the NPP. You have come to a party that believes in doing whatever it can to move our country and its people forward.”

Nana Addo continued that “as you know, politics is about numbers and so any more addition to our numbers is very good news and I can assure you that when the NPP comes back, our country will move forward again.”

He called on the group to work closely with the Atwima Kwanhoma constituency executives of the party to ensure that they take the NPP’s good message to all parts of the constituency.

The defected youth have since formed a group and the leader gave Nana Addo a list of all registered members.

Nana Akufo-Addo is still in the Ashanti region continuing with his listening campaign. He is expected to cut short his tour of the Ashanti region on Thursday to allow him visit affected victims of severe flooding in some parts of the Eastern region, on Friday and Saturday.
