The Northern Youth Peace and Development was really shocked to hear that the Hon. Member of Parliament for Akim Abuakwa South Constituency, Hon. Atta Akyea was arrested at the court premises in Accra and escorted to the Police Headquarters but later had been granted bail by the Police in the sum of Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢100,000.00) on the orders of the Attorney General, Hon. Martin Amidu.
NYUPED wants to state categorically that if the arrest of Atta Akyea was not politically-motivated as the Attorney General wants us to believe, what happened to Hon. Twumasi Appiah, the NDC Member of Parliament for Sene who was charged with defrauding by false pretences in the gold transaction, the National Women Organiser of the NDC, Anita De Souza who used her vehicle to run into an innocent crowd during the Atiwa Bye-Elections, the NDC Member of Parliament, Hon. Captain Mfodwo who was accused of raping a lady, Carl Wilsons, and many more of such unattended criminal cases. All these matters are under the watch of the first gentleman of the land even a professor in law Prof. John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills .
The NYUPED from our credible sources understand that the case in question in which Atta Akyea was arrested is even in the hands of a court of the land. In that case, Zoe, Akyea & Co had sued J. Adom Ltd and Joseph Adom for US$81,569.20 and GH¢85,692.88 while J. Adom Ltd had counterclaimed for US$60,000.00, GH¢66,299.85 and GH¢78,501.46. So clearly this is a question of accounts. One may ask the question what is the Attorney-General’s interest in this purely civil matter. And why is this indecent haste to arrest Atta Akyea. We further want to know why Joseph Adom is now pressing criminal charges regarding a lawyer-client relationship spanning over six (6) years and during a regime change.
What is worrying is that, our Checks reveal that, it is not Atta Akyea who spent Joseph Adom’s US$60,000.00 but rather one Joseph Krampa who was arraigned before the Circuit Court 2, Cocoa Affairs and the record are there for everyone to see. Why charge the innocent man when the fraudster has been found. What is the Attorney-General’s interest in this matter?
What has so blinded the Attorney-General that for the sake of Joseph Adom, he is ready to violate Articles 117 and 118 of the Constitution?
We are mindful of the selective justice being practice by the Minister of Justice and we shall surely resist this political persecution as far as NYUPED responsibility is concerned.

Meanwhile NYUPED was not surprise when the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning Hon. Kwabena Duffour told parliament in his supplementary budget presentation that only 8 million Ghana cedi has so far been paid into SADA’s fund. Even we cannot ascertain the reality due to previously failed promises, directives and pronouncements.
Advice
The Northern Youth Peace and Development (NYUPED) will like to state that the government should re-consider its numerous promises for the people are really suffering especially within the Three Northern Regions.
There is no doubt that the NDC government is losing its credibility and that could definitely affect its electoral fortunes in the coming 2012 general elections as the northern extract have now vowed to vote on issues and not on promises, politics of ethnicity and conflictism E.g. Ya- Na’s alleged tape etc.
