Tsumeb — Namibia Custom Smelters (NCS) hosted its annual fun golf day in Tsumeb last weekend to raise funds for the newly established Dundee Precious Metals-Namibia Custom Smelters Tsumeb Community Trust.
The 3rd NCS Fun Golf Day attracted a record 26 teams with 78 golfers and began on a high note on a blustery day at the NCS-owned Tsumeb golf course.
Future social responsibility projects in the Tsumeb community stand to benefit from the day’s proceeds, which amounted to N$75 000.
The occasion also marked the official opening of the newly remodeled Tsumeb Golf Club clubhouse, which was given a complete facelift with financial assistance from NCS.
“I am delighted and proud to say that many people and sponsors turned out to support worthy charitable causes in the Tsumeb community. So many dedicated golfers and their caddies braved the elements, not only to have a good time but to help uplift our community,” said Hans Nolte, NCS vice-president and general manager.
“We would like to thank all individuals and institutions who have responded to our call to participate in the NCS Fun Golf Day. Without this joint effort we would not have been in the position to support the community. This effort emphasizes once again one of our corporate core values, namely, community involvement,” Nolte added.
“A big thank you also goes out to all the organizations in Namibia and abroad that are trying to uplift and empower the poor and vulnerable members of our community.
We at NCS hope that our humble contribution will bring along positive change,” he added.
Since the community trust was established in 2010, NCS has been regularly funding and supporting events to promote the enhancement of local education, social involvement and sport.
Following is a summary of some of NCS’s key CSR activities over the past year:
– N$450 000 was spent to upgrade the J.P Ratledge Stadium, which serves as the central sports complex for all Tsumeb schools.
– 10 new desktop computers were donated to Otjikoto Secondary School to help revitalize its information technology training programme.
– N$45 000 was given to Ondundu Primary School for classroom renovations.
– Two overhead projectors were handed to Nomtsoub Primary School.
– More than N$8 000 was given to Francis Galton Primary School to purchase chairs for the new assembly hall.
– School and exam fees were paid for orphans and other vulnerable children at the Tsumeb Hope Centre.
