Ejura (Ash), July 28, GNA – The Government is to pilot a Gender Responsive Skills and Development Project (GRSDP) in the Ejura-Sekyeredumase District, Dr Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah, Ashanti Regional Minister, has announced.

The project is to promote fair and equitable socio-economic development through institutional capacity building and also enhance women’s employment opportunities and entrepreneurship.

He was addressing the first ordinary meeting of the Ejura-Sekyedumase district assembly, as part of his tour of the area on Wednesday.

The GRSDP, he said, would provide scholarship for girls from poor homes to learn trades, including technical, electrical and mechanical enterprises.

The Minister urged the assembly members to show keen interest in the project and ensure that the support went to girls, who really deserved assistance.

Dr Agyemang-Mensah underlined the strategic importance of the district, and said being one of the major food producing areas with a viable and well patronized market, it has critical contribution to make to the nation’s development.

He called on the Assembly Members, Heads of Department and chiefs to cooperate and rally behind the District Chief Executive (DCE) for a smooth implementation of the policies and programmes designed to speed up the progress of the district.

Additionally, they should give priority attention to the promotion of good environmental practices to help prevent diseases.

The assembly should also step up its revenue mobilization efforts to enable it to provide more development projects for the people.

Ms Martha Bruckner, DCE, enumerated a number of projects and social interventions introduced in the district by the government within the last two years and said they were poised to move forward in the right direction.

She expressed satisfaction with the cordial relationship between the assembly, traditional authorities and other stakeholders that had allowed for the implementation of the various development interventions free from interruptions.

Dr Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah had earlier inspected construction works on the Sekyedumase community resources centre, Sekyedumase Senior High School (SHS), small town water system at Hiawoanwu, which is being funded under the Millennium Development Assistance (MiDA) project and the children’s ward of the Ejura Government Hospital.

He also inaugurated an Information Communication Technology (ICT) centre for the district assembly and presented a fire tender to the District Fire Station at Ejura.
