PETER AMO, former Brong Ahafo Regional Chairman and founding member of the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) and two hundred members of the party have condemned Dr. Obed Asamoah for allegedly betraying them.

Dr Asamoah founded the party after breaking away from the ruling NDC after its acrimonious congress in Koforidua in 2006.

Recently, he has said that his party is in talks with the NDC and would be returning to the fold of the mother party very soon.

Speaking on behalf of the other members, Mr. Amo said Dr. Asamoah told them during the run up to the 2008 elections that in case there should be a run-off, all members of the DFP should vote for Nana Akufo-Addo because he is the best among the candidates. “What has changed in Nana Akufo-Addo to make Obed do an about turn?” he asked.

Mr. Amo told DAILY GUIDE that if Obed Asamoah wants to join the NDC, he is at liberty to do so but he cannot drag members of the DFP to join the NDC as well.

Looking angry, Mr. Amo said Dr. Asamoah has proved that he is a stomach politician because he left the NDC when the party was in opposition but now that the party is in government, he wants to reap where he has not sown.

He was of the view that Dr. Asamoah’s behavior was shameful and advised all members of the DFP to treat him with contempt since he led them into the deep waters then left them to swim alone.

According to Mr. Amo, he will lead the party’s campaign in the Brong Ahafo region to make sure all DFP members in the region join the NPP because of the alleged betrayal of Dr. Asamoah.

Madam Ama Nsiah, DFP Women’s Organizer in Nkoranza North who spoke on behalf of women in the party said she has come to realize how inconsistent Dr. Asamoah is.

She said she decided to follow Dr. Asamoah because she saw him as an astute politician and a trustworthy person but sadly Dr. Asamoah has disappointed her.

She also vowed to campaign for the NPP to prove to Dr. Asamoah that he cannot take people for a ride.

She warned Professor Mills to be very careful of Dr. Asamoah because in the run-up to the 2008 general elections, Dr. Asamoah told members of the DFP when he visited the Brong Ahafo region that he (Mills) knows nothing about politics and that if Mills is given the opportunity to rule the country, he will ruin the economy.

As at the time of filing this report, a meeting had been scheduled to take place next week where members of the DFP will formally declare their support for the NPP.
