Share This Story — Acquisition of an electronic timer from Germany was only the first step in improving Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) management of competitions. To build capacity, 12 officials underwent a six-day technical course last week to operate the system.

Three German instructors led by Frank Neuer trained the Ugandan human resource to use the system and assessed them during the National Athletics Championship that climaxed last Sunday at Namboole.

The beneficiaries, who were awarded certificates on Tuesday, include Namayo Mawerere, Nalis Bigingo, Innocent Asiimwe, George Palanda, Barbara Asiimwe, Hasifa Namugerwa, Faustino Kiwa, Ronnie Kasirye, Apollo Musherure, Timothy Masaba, Rafael Kasajja and Paul Okello.

“The federation has yearned to acquire this facility for over 10 years without success,” UAF president Dominic Otuchet said while handing over the certificates. “I thank the German government for donating the facility which will improve the quality and operations of competitions as well as helping in selection of athletes for international engagements.”
